Delicious-looking cakes inspired by literature

What happens when you ask a group of talented pastry chefs to create cakes inspired by books?

Magic. Delicious magic.

For the past two years, the St. Louis Public Library in Missouri has hosted a fundraising event called A Taste of Fiction, in which the highlight is a series of creative cake creations that evoke the spirit of some literary favourites.

This year's event takes place on Friday, March 6. We'll update this page with images of this year's freshly baked batch, but in the meantime, here are examples from the past.

Some of our readers are also quite familiar with the powerful combination of sweets and books! Here are a couple of pics we've received. Keep 'em coming!

Lorraine Day submitted the following photos. She's a huge fan of the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. For her 50th birthday, Lorraine's husband asked a baker to create a special Outlander inspired birthday cake. The books were made of fondant and edible too.

"It was so beautiful I could not even cut it!! The guests left without having any!" she told us in an email. We don't blame you at all, Lorraine.

Meanwhile, Jessica Li baked a super cool cake inspired by The Little Prince for her nephew's first birthday.
