One day down, one book eliminated.
CBC's annual battle of the books got underway Monday morning and the debate was sharp from the start. Scroll down to find out which book was eliminated today and how.
When it came to the elimination vote, Martha Wainwright and Elaine "Lainey" Lui chose Intolerable by Kamal Al-Solaylee. Cameron Bailey voted for And the Birds Rained Down by Jocelyne Saucier, while Craig Kielburger and Kristin Kreuk picked Ru to go. This led to a dramatic tie-breaker in which Bailey was asked to choose between Ru and Intolerable. Naturally, Bailey, who is defending Ru, chose Intolerable.
Intolerable panellist Kristin Kreuk expressed her disappointment but said she wants to continue encouraging people to pick up the book and read the real-life story of a gay man who grew up in the Middle East, and the myriad social, political, and cultural challenges he encountered during his journey of self-discovery.
"It's incredibly important," she said. "Read this book."
