Fox Animation has attained the movie rights to produce a film featuring English children's author Roger Hargreaves' iconic Mr. Men and Little Miss characters.

"I loved reading these books as a kid, and now I love reading them to my own kids," Levy said in a press release on Tuesday. "Their humor, wit and uniquely specific tone make this a truly classic series. I can't wait to help shepherd them to the big screen."

Hargreaves first introduced the world to his colourful characters in 1971 with his first book Mr. Tickle. He created new characters up until his death in 1988, including Mr. Sneeze, Mr. Mean, Mr. Dizzy, Little Miss Bossy, Little Miss Sunshine and Little Miss Trouble. However, both beloved book series continued with Hargreaves' son Adam taking over the writing and illustration. The Mr. Men and Little Miss series is among the most commercially successful literary franchises in the world, with combined sales of more than 100 million copies globally.
