Orphan Black to become comic book series

The hit Canadian sci-fi fantasy show Orphan Black will make the leap to comic book pages next year.

IDW Publishing announced this week that it will be working closely with the program's producers to publish "all-new stories" not seen on the television version. The publisher released a sample of cover art.

Orphan Black is a thrilling adventure that follows the character of Sarah Manning, played by Regina-born actress Tatiana Maslany, a woman who discovers she's one of several clones and is plunged into a dangerous conspiracy aiming to conceal the truth.

Chris Ryall, IDW Publishing's editor-in-chief, described the show as a "perfect premise for comics."

"And as the second season has expanded the series in exciting new directions, that has only increased the amount of stories we'll be able to tell in comic book form."

The TV series debuted in 2013 and has gained a dedicated following. A third season has been ordered and will air sometime in 2015.

IDW Publishing has brought several other successful TV shoes into comic book form before, including Doctor Who, 24, Angel and The X-Files.
