Doctors' prescription: Read to your child every day
Tuesday, June 24, 2014 |
Infant kids need a daily dose of being read to, according to the largest pediatricians' group in the U.S.
The American Academy of Pediatrics issued a new policy statement Tuesday that insists parents should read aloud to their children every day starting in infancy to enhance development and prepare young minds for learning language and reading.
To promote reading and literacy, the doctors' group is teaming up with several organizations, including the Clinton Foundation, publisher Scholastic Inc., and Reach Out and Read, a non-profit program that works with hospitals to distribute books.
