Musician and broadcaster Wab Kinew has signed a two-book deal with Penguin Canada. His memoir about "family reconciliation and spiritual rebirth" will hit bookstore shelves in 2015, under the company's Viking imprint, the publisher announced Thursday. The second title will be an illustrated children's book.
"I've been lucky to travel the country and see political and economic reconciliation in action," Kinew said in a statement. "However, I was also given the gift of helping my late father, who experienced the worst of the residential school era, on his very powerful journey to foster spiritual reconciliation. Through sharing our story, I believe we can contribute to the conversations happening between Canadians and Indigenous peoples--but also to share some lessons on what it means to be a good human being."
Kinew successfully championed Joseph Boyden's latest novel, The Orenda, during Canada Reads 2014: One Novel to Change Our Nation. Boyden's novels are also published by Penguin Canada, under the Hamish Hamilton imprint.
