Elmore Leonard, one of America's most prolific and influential crime writers, died at the age of 87 on Tuesday.
Leonard, whose witty and gritty stories were adapted into Hollywood hits like Get Shorty, Out of Sight, and the TV series Justified, had been recovering from a stroke in early August.
But his website was updated Tuesday morning with the news that Leonard had passed away "at home surrounded by his loving family."
