We hosted the October #CanLit chat on Thursday, October 6, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. ET. The theme was "Canadian book awards: the good, the bad and the literary."
Plenty of people from every aspect of publishing came by to share their thoughts. Three major themes emerged:
1) Awards help inform readers' choices when it comes to picking new reads, but they are only a small part of the book buying puzzle.
2) Awards are seen as a place of expertise, this can be both beneficial and problematic for readers.
3) Awards are an essential part of Canadian literary culture.
