Liberal Fundraising – April 29, 2005

Well, two days after we find out the B.C. Liberals are using taxpayer money to fund their election campaign! We now find B.C. taxpayers have been paying for municipal officials to attend B.C. Liberal fundraisers. With sadly too little coverage from the media yet again.

While this has happened only seven times in five years it isn't, according to the CBC reporters I watched today, as "big a problem as the sponsorship scandal" because only $2,000 was stolen and the B.C. Liberals are already paying it back.

Since when in Canada did the criminal get to tell us what they stole and what the punishment for their crime will be?

We are supposed to believe that the B.C. Liberal party fraudulently took about $2,000 of taxpayers' money and only $2,000? That somehow they've made full restitution and that it was only a few volunteers behind our being defrauded?

When did the B.C. Liberals adopt this creative campaign financing arrangement, how long have they known about it, who in the B.C. Liberal party knew about it, why wasn't this fraud discovered and exposed sooner?

Gee, maybe the media forget its their job to report the news? It seems to me the five W's got missed on this one. Lucky for Gord he's got friends in the media lifting the rug for him.
