Political History:
The MLA in North Vancouver-Seymour is Liberal Daniel Jarvis, a three-term incumbent. Jarvis had gained office in 1991, beating the NDP's Dominique Rolants by nearly 5,000 votes; he increased that margin to nearly 7,500 votes in his '96 victory over New Democrat Michelle Kemper. In 2001 Jarvis won again, with nearly three times the votes of runner-up Evelyn Kirkaldy of the Greens. Jarvis' predecessor here was the Socred's Jack Davis, who won his seat in 1975 and held it by comfortable margins through the next three elections. He died before the 1991 election.
In 2001, voter turnout in North Vancouver-Seymour was 73.7 per cent – somewhat above the provincial average.
