Political History:

The incumbent in Coquitlam-Maillardville is Liberal Richard Stewart. He gained office in 2001, collecting twice the votes of the NDP's Ken Landgraff. Landgraff's defeat spelled the end of a long NDP reign: New Democrat John Cashore won here in 1986, '91 and '96. From 1979-83, New Democrat Norm Levi was MLA; he lost the 1983 election by 39 votes to the Social Credit Party's John Parks.
