Audio slide show by Emily Zuberec of Vancouver Technical Secondary School
A graduate of my high school recently published an image on the internet that sparked a debate among adults and youth alike about judging others purely based on their attire. The image of a woman wearing a short skirt garnered international attention, but Vancouver was especially eager to show Rosea Lake’s picture to the public.
The image made me think about the assumptions I made about others. And how much I dislike it when people assume something about me just because of what I wear, skirts, jackets or otherwise.
I am not alone. I spoke to many of my classmates about this issue. Many agreed that being a teenage girl is difficult; there are prejudices and stereotypical judgement. And as a girl who likes to wear skirts, I felt like I could bring an honest, teenage-girl perspective to this story.
