Cultural Secrets of Vancouver
from September 22, 2011 to October 2, 2011 at midnight


To enter the Cultural Secrets of Vancouver, you must listen to CBC Radio One all week to hear secrets from some of Vancouver's most celebrated citizens and watch the special TV show featuring the best on Thursday night at 7:30 PM on CBC TV. Visit the Cultural Secrets of Vancouver website at www.cbc.ca/bc/secrets and fill in the form with your cultural secret for your chance to win one of our great prizes.

Contestants must complete the official entry form available on the CBC website www.cbc.ca/bc/secrets and give the answer to the mandatory question, along with their name, full postal address, e-mail address, telephone number.

To be valid, all entry forms must be received by October 2, 2011 at midnight Pacific Standard Time.

Limit of one entry per person per day.

Entry forms become the property of CBC and will not be returned to contestants.

Texts should be no more than 250 words and be submitted online using the form at www.cbc.ca/bc/secrets. All texts must be composed by and be the original work of the contestant, and must not violate the rights of any third party. By submitting an entry, contestants assign all rights and waive any moral rights they may have in their texts. Contestants acknowledge that CBC may publish this text in whole or in part, on any medium (radio, television, Internet or other). In this case, you should also ensure that the entry form contains a specific clause whereby contestants expressly assign their rights (through signature). Consult the Law Department in such cases.

Contest is open to all Canadian residents. For contestants under 19 a parental release form will be required for the contestant to claim his or her prize. Employees of CBC and their affiliates, as well as their immediate family (father/mother, brother/sister, son/daughter) or persons living under the same roof are not eligible to enter this contest.


The winners will be selected by the Producer of Cultural Secrets of Vancouver who is a CBC employee. The selection will be made based on the quality of description, originality, and quality of the secret nominated.

Winners will be contacted by telephone or by e-mail during the week following the draw and should claim their prize as instructed by CBC by no later than five days after the date they were initially contacted. If the prize is not claimed within this period, a new draw will be held.


The top three contestants will win one of the three following prize packages.

Prize package 1:

Two nights at the historic Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, including traditional afternoon tea for two in 900 West Lounge and a personalized history tour of the hotel.
- The offer expires on September 30th, 2012.
- Redemption is based on availability.
- The historical tour must be arranged at the time of booking to ensure there is a guide available.

Two tickets to the Arts Club Theatre's production The Penelopiad by Margaret Atwood
Terms and conditions:
- Tickets are valid for all performances from October 20 to November 3, excluding Saturday evenings.

Dinner for two at Cloud 9 Revolving Restaurant (maximum value of gift certificate is $100).
- The gift certificate entitles the bearer to enjoy dinner for 2 people at Cloud 9 Revolving Restaurant (maximum value of $100.00).
- Gratuity and alcoholic beverages are not included.
- Not valid with special events: Valentine's Day, Fireworks, Christmas, New Year's Eve, etc.
- No refund for unused portion. No cash value.
- Reservations are highly recommended.
- Expiry date on Sept 30, 2012.

Prize package 2:

Book, Bed & Breakfast Package at The Listel Hotel including two nights accommodation for two, breakfast for two at O'Doul's Restaurant & Bar, and a copy of the book Vancouver Stories.
- Valid October 1, 2011 to May 31, 2012.
- Not available December 31, 2011.
- Redemption is based on availability.

A three-course dinner for two paired with British Columbia's finest wines at Lift Bar Grill View.

Exclusive coffee tasting event at Caffè Artigiano.
- Please allow 30 days notice to make your booking. The event must be booked outside of peak business hours, booking for up to eight people maximum
- Package is for up to 8 people maximum, value = $400.00.
- Expiry date: October 31, 2012.

Prize package 3:

Two nights accommodation at the Pan Pacific Vancouver, including tickets to Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Garden and the hotel's Opera Buffet.
- Excluding all holidays, promotions, special events, and subject to room availability.
- Not valid for the Italian Opera Buffet Dec. 1 – 31st.
- Reservations cannot be booked more than 7 days prior to arrival.
- Not redeemable for cash in whole or part or replaced if lost or stolen.
- Non-transferable and validity dates are not extendable.
- Alcoholic beverages are not included in the Opera Buffet.

- No exchanges or refunds.

A year-round family membership for General Admission to Grouse Mountain:
- Non-transferable and non-refundable


5.1 To be declared a winner, the contestant must first correctly answer a mathematical skill-testing question.

5.2 Winners, as well as the people accompanying them, or their parents or guardians if the winners and/or the people accompanying them are minors, shall agree, if necessary, to have their name and/or picture, including their photograph, and/or their voices used for advertising purposes related to this contest, free of charge.

5.3 Winners, or their parents or guardians if they are minors, shall sign a document attesting to their eligibility as stipulated in paragraph 2 of these rules and releasing CBC, their affiliates, as well as their respective directors, officers and employees, from all liability for any damage or loss arising from participation in this contest or from the awarding, acceptance or use of the prize.

Anyone accompanying the winner in connection with the prizes outlined above [or the parent or guardian of anyone accompanying the winner in connection with the prize] shall sign a document releasing CBC, their affiliates, as well as their respective directors, officers and employees, from all liability for any damage or loss arising from use of the prize.

5.4 The prize shall be accepted as is and may not be exchanged for an amount of money, nor sold nor transferred. No substitutions will be allowed.

5.5 If the prize cannot be awarded as described in these rules, CBC, their affiliates, as well as their respective directors, officers and employees, reserve the right to substitute a prize or prize component with another of comparable value.

5.6 Refusal to accept the prize releases CBC, their affiliates, as well as their respective directors, officers and employees, of any obligation toward the winner.

5.7 Should winners make any false statement, they shall be automatically disqualified from the contest.

5.8 CBC, their affiliates, as well as their respective directors, officers and employees, shall assume no liability resulting from losses, delays, mistaken addresses on mail or e-mail received, typographical errors, technical, computer or telephone malfunctions, loss or theft of computer or telephone data, damage to software or computer equipment, fraudulent calls or any other mistake.

5.9 CBC, their affiliates, as well as their respective directors, officers and employees, shall assume no liability whatsoever for any situation in which their inability to act results from an event or situation beyond their control, including a strike, lockout or any other labour dispute at their location or the locations of the organizations and businesses whose services are used to hold this contest

5.10 All personal information besides your name and city of residence, such as your address, telephone number, e-mail address and age is collected solely for the purposes of administering this contest and shall not be used for any other purpose without your consent. By providing this information, you consent to it being used for the stated purposes.Your name and city of residence may be used in conjunction with promoting the contest.

5.11 By entering, contestants agree to abide by the contest rules which shall be applied by the CBC. All its decisions are final.
