We're inviting you to join us for a full day of fun including newsroom tours, live broadcasts and the opportunity to meet CBC personalities including Tony Parsons, Gloria Macarenko, Rick Cluff, Stephen Quinn, CBC's George Stroumboulopoulos and Hockey Night in Canada's Scott Russell.

Be part of the audience for special live broadcasts in Studio 700. The day starts off with Rick Cluff, host of The Early Edition, followed by a CBC Radio 3 show. Enjoy the special joint broadcasts of BC Almanac and North by Northwest, On The Coast and All Points West, as the shows continue the live experience throughout the day.  Special guests and performers include Richard Brodeur, Wally Buono, Hannah Georgas, Jill Barber, Randy Bachman and 54/40. The evening ends with CBC News Vancouver at 5, 5:30 and 6 pm live from the news set.

VANCOUVER STUDENT ROAN SHANKARUK WINS CBC RADIO'S OTC UNPLUGGED

 

November 5, 2010 - CBC Radio One's On The Coast today announced the winner of the best high school solo singer/songwriter in the Lower Mainland contest OTC Unplugged, Roan Shankaruk from Vancouver Technical School in Vancouver, BC. Judges chose Roan after a final performance of the top three students from the contest during a special live broadcast of On The Coast from CBC Vancouver's Studio 700 today.

Thirteen year old Roan performed two original songs on piano including "The Compromise", a musical theatre piece.

"What a fantastic performance by all three students," said Stephen Quinn, host of On The Coast. "The audience and judges were blown away by the performers. They all have bright futures ahead of them."

Roan will receive an all day recording session with Juno-nominated CBC music producer, Jon Siddall, in one of CBC's state-of-the-art recording studios. She will also receive a radio-ready copy of her single, which will be featured nationally on CBC Radio 3 by host Lisa Christiansen, as well as 100 CDs and cases from Digital Media Alliance, and a week to produce a music video at Gulf Islands Film and Television School.

On The Coast is hosted by Stephen Quinn and can be heard on CBC Radio One weekdays from 3-6 pm on 88.1 FM and 690 AM in Metro Vancouver.

CBC'S ON THE COAST REVEALS SHORTLIST FOR OTC UNPLUGGED
Top 13 high school solo singer/songwriters chosen through online votes and judge's picks

October 20, 2010 - CBC Radio One's On The Coast marks the first milestone for OTC Unplugged announcing its shortlist, drawn from an online poll and judge's wildcard votes. Over 8,500 unique votes were logged on the website.

The top 13 students are:

"The response and support for this contest has been amazing," said Stephen Quinn, host of On The Coast. "CBC is pleased to be supporting the musical aspirations of these talented local students."

Songs from the shortlist will be featured on On The Coast over the next two weeks, while the judges deliberate on the Top 3. The Top 3 will be featured in a live performance during the show's broadcast on November 5, with the winner being announced at the end of the show.

The top three finalists will get Long & McQuade gift certificates and will play in an all-finalists show at Trees Organic Coffee House in Vancouver.

The winner will receive an all day recording session with a Juno-nominated CBC music producer, Jon Siddall, in one of CBC's state-of the art recording studios and the band will receive a radio-ready copy of their single, which will be featured nationally on CBC Radio 3 by host Lisa Christiansen.
