Hockey Day in Canada comes to the Richmond Olympic Oval!

Join us for a free, family focused day of all things hockey under one roof on Saturday, February 11, 2012 from 10:30am - 10:00pm. 

Come out for the celebrity ball hockey tournament hosted by CBC Sports Reporter Shane Foxman and refereed by Canucks mascot, Fin

The game will serve as the official kickoff for Richmond Celebrates Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada at the Richmond Olympic Oval.


Players include:

Hong Kong pop singer Kary Ng who will also sing the national anthem to start the game.

  • Check out the CBC booth, spin the prize wheel and meet Peter Puck
  • Appearances by NHL legends, including Trevor Linden, other Vancouver Canucks alumni, and Canucks mascot Fin.
  • The Hockey Hall of Fame's "Legends" exhibit featuring memorabilia, interactive experiences and a number of NHL trophies, including the Hart Memorial Trophy awarded to the NHL's most valuable player.

  • An interactive fun zone where fans can test their shooting and other hockey skills.
  • A day-long hockey jamboree on twin Olympic-sized ice sheets.
  • Nintendo video games section, plus table hockey and air hockey challenges.
  • A public entry road hockey tournament on the Oval plaza organized by Urban Rec.
  • Numerous merchandise giveaways, prize draws and fun contests.

CBC Television will be broadcasting live from the event throughout the day. 

Catch all seven of Canada's NHL hockey teams in action with a broadcast 
CBC Hockey Night in Canada on a giant screen. You can even come to cheer on your hometown Canucks at 7pm as they take on arch rival Calgary.

It's going to be an unforgettable day in Richmond for hockey fans of all ages!

Well, here's your chance to try it for yourself. News Day in BC is back for a fourth year. The project is open to all high school students from grades 10-12 from across Metro Vancouver. Sign up for a journalism workshop held at the CBC Vancouver Broadcast Centre in downtown Vancouver on January 21st and 22nd, 2012.

You can meet CBC and Vancouver Sun personalities, learn more about the exciting world of journalism and find out how you can get involved in News Day.



After the workshop, come back and audition for a spot on this year's News Day team. Show us what you've got and compete for one of this year's coveted spots. Come find out if you have what it takes to make to the Final 30. Each finalist will also receive a $1000 scholarship from Sylvan Learning. Summer Olympic Athelete.jpgThe London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games are less than a year away and our Canadian athletes have been training hard to prepare! 

On December 27th at noon, CBC Radio One presents "A Day in the Life...On the Road to the London Olympic Games"a one-hour special hosted by CBC Victoria's On The Island, Gregor Craigie. This special will be broadcast throughout BC.

 


The special follows athletes, from five different sports for one typical training day in Victoria as they prepare for the Summer Olympics 2012. Listeners will get an inside look at the lives of triathlete Simon Whitfield, diver Riley McCormick, rowers Lindsay Jennerich and Patricia Obee, wheelchair basketball player Jessica Vliegethart and 800 metre runner Lemlem Bereket Ogbasilassie. We'll follow them to the gym, the weight room, the track, the pool, physio and even at home with the family.

Thanks to everyone who came last Friday to CBC Vancouver's broadcast centre for Open House and Food Bank Day. Through your generosity, we raised $445,410 for the food banks of British Columbia. With the food bank's bulk purchasing power, this translates into over $1.2 million of nutritious groceries for British Columbians in need.

Over 5000 of you visited our broadcast centre during the Open House and shared in what we do everyday - provide great programming that informs, enlightens, and entertains Canadians. We hope you enjoyed the day as much as we did. Check out some of the photos!

We're inviting you to join us for a full day of fun including newsroom tours, live broadcasts and the opportunity to meet CBC personalities including Tony Parsons, Gloria Macarenko, Rick Cluff, Stephen Quinn, CBC's George Stroumboulopoulos and Hockey Night in Canada's Scott Russell.

Be part of the audience for special live broadcasts in Studio 700. The day starts off with Rick Cluff, host of The Early Edition, followed by a CBC Radio 3 show. Enjoy the special joint broadcasts of BC Almanac and North by Northwest, On The Coast and All Points West, as the shows continue the live experience throughout the day.  Special guests and performers include Richard Brodeur, Wally Buono, Hannah Georgas, Jill Barber, Randy Bachman and 54/40. The evening ends with CBC News Vancouver at 5, 5:30 and 6 pm live from the news set.
