Tessa brings youth, a feisty determination and a rare finesse to this season of Battle of the Blades. A strong, offensive defenseman, Tessa was a key member of Canada's Olympic Gold Medal National Women's Hockey Team at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics where she assisted on their first goal and she scored the third goal in that tournament. As a member of the Canadian National Women's Hockey Team since 2004, she has achieved Silver in Sweden in 2005, Gold in Canada in 2007 and Silver in Finland in 2009.
Tessa was named Rookie of the Year in 2003-2004 and she was named to the first-team All-American Team her senior year (2008) while at Ohio State University majoring in Speech and Hearing Science. She won various awards and broke the Ohio State single season record for the most points (45) by a defenceman.
Growing up in Sudbury playing road hockey, Tessa's Dad was initially not fond of the idea that his youngest daughter may be joining a hockey team. Later, he warmed up to this idea and soon became her coach and mentor. Tessa hopes to push herself and test her ability this season on Battle of the Blades.
As the first female hockey player, she has never worn figure skates before and aspires to rise to this occasion and raise the stakes of this competition. Her family enjoys watching the show and her grandmother has a confessed soft spot for co-host Kurt Browning. Ultimately, Tessa wants to take this opportunity to promote and help grow the sport of female hockey in Canada.
