Kim's blog: Lights, camera, action!

(09/27/2011) - As you might imagine, it has been a bit of a rush to get ready for the first live television performance. Russ and I have only two weeks of skating together under our belts, and the circumstances have been difficult. But the realization that it has been a time crunch hit me most when I arrived at the MasterCard Center in Toronto, the set of Battle of the Blades.
Up to this point, Russ and I had been in our own little bubble. I traveled to Los Angeles, where Russ and his family live, to begin our training together. Brent (Bommentre, my year-round partner) met us there to act as our coach. Then I flew to Minneapolis, where Russʼ son had a hockey tournament, and then went back to Los Angeles for more training, under the tutelage of Brent and Doug Ladret.

It was a nice break, a step back from everything that has happened. The weather was beautiful, we had the ice to ourselves, and all we had to worry about were the steps in our program.

But, as it turns out, there is a lot more to a television show than the steps in a figure skating routine. And this hit me flat in the face when I arrived in Toronto...
