Cale truly embodies the definition of a walking contradiction with respect to his on ice reputation, and his off ice personality. Known as an intimidating force during his NHL career, he was involved in some intense fights with fellow NHL heavyweights.
Off ice, he has a gentle demeanour and takes great pride in being a stay-at-home dad. He is a self-admitted late bloomer having started playing hockey at 6 years old, but not really getting good at the game until he was 16 years old when he made the AAA Midget Buffaloes.
Initially told that he was too slow, his grit and determination to improve paid off and he was drafted in the third round in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft by the New Jersey Devils. After playing eight games with the New Jersey Devils, he was traded home to Calgary where he played with the Flames for five years. He went on to play with the Nashville Predators (2000-2003), the Phoenix Coyotes (2003-2004) and then the Columbus Blue Jackets (2005-2006) before returning to the Flames in 2006. Cale was the assistant captain when he played in Calgary, Nashville and Phoenix. The Phoenix Coyotes honoured Cale with an award for the hardest working player of the year in 2004.
Since retiring six years ago, he refers to himself proudly as Mr. Mom and is father to Hudson, Stella, Caia and Spencer. Cale hails from Alberta having been born in Edmonton and raised in Calgary. Cale is married to actress, Gena Lee Nolin (Baywatch) and today they live in Arizona with their children.
Cale's motivation to join Battle of the Blades is simple -facing one's fear.
