Boyd played for four NHL teams including the Edmonton Oilers (1997-2000), Detroit Red Wings (2000-2004), Phoenix Coyotes (2005-2006) and the Toronto Maple Leafs (2006-2009). Off the ice, Boyd has a keen interest in music and co-founded an independent music label in 2004. Impressed with the calibre of hockey players from Seasons 1 and 2, Boyd was flattered by the invitation to join the cast of Battle of the Blades. He is inspired to make the most of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity where he plans to put it all on the line and go for it. While competing in the third season of Battle of the Blades, Boyd will also be running his production company which combines his love of music and sports cinematography to create content for the web.

He lives with his wife Leah and two daughters, Tessa and Lucy, in Kitchener, Ontario.
