Sandra Bezic knows figure skating. This award-winning and internationally-renowned industry expert is unparalleled when it comes to critiquing even the most accomplished figure skaters. That's because she's been an athlete, coach, choreographer, producer, on-air analyst, and author. For years she choreographed programs for Olympic and World Championship figure skating phenoms including Kurt Browning, Kristi Yamaguchi, Brian Boitano, Barbara Underhill and Paul Martini.

 

Bezic is known worldwide for her contributions to numerous groundbreaking TV specials. As Co-creator, Producer and Judge on the smash hit series Battle of the Blades, Bezic introduced a whole new audience to the sport she loves. She has choreographed and produced more than 30 major network television productions. Her work on the 1989 film, Carmen on Ice, won three Best Performance Emmys by the three leads: Katarina Witt, Brian Orser and Brian Boitano. Her outstanding choreography for Stars on Ice, the touring show she directed for 11 years, won her an Emmy in 2003. As a producer Bezic received two separate Geminis for Best Variety Program. The first for Brian Orser's CBC special Night Moves. The second for CBC's Kurt Browning, You Must Remember This, which was produced by the Battle of the Blades team.

 

Where there's figure skating there's most certainly intense drama and Bezic has been a part of some of the sport's most memorable moments. For over 20 years Bezic has covered multiple Olympics and high-profile figure skating events as an on-air analyst, including the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver for NBC. Bezic's diverse career extends beyond the rink. She served as Marlon Brando's personal skating coach for the feature film The Freshman, and appeared alongside him in a cameo role during the movie. She's the author of The Passion To Skate: An Intimate View of Figure Skating and she released a compilation CD, The Passion To Skate. With director and friend Joan Tosoni, Bezic co-wrote and co-produced her own CBC special, Sandra Bezic, Passion To Skate.

 

At the age of 13, Bezic won the first of five consecutive Canadian Pairs titles with her brother, Val. They represented Canada at the 1972 Olympics Games and at five World Championships. Later this year Bezic will be inaugurated into the Skate Canada Hall of Fame for her work as a choreographer.
