Meet the pairs for Season 2

Let the battle begin.

The second season of Battle of the Blades got off to a roaring start, Sunday, with a behind-the-scenes special showing eight former NHL players making their first foray into the world of figure skating.

In Battle's premiere, "Battle of the Blades: Game On," viewers watched former hockey greats like Theo Fleury, Georges Laraque, Patrice Brisebois, P.J. Stock, Kelly Chase, Russ Courtnall and Russian competitor Valeri Bure slip and trip their way through a figure skating boot camp.

Competing to win a $100,000 prize donation towards their charity of choice, the figure skating rookies have been paired up with veterans ahead of next week's first live competition show.

Shae-Lynn Bourne and Patrice Brisebois
Skating for: Make-A-Wish Foundation (Bourne) and Sainte-Justine UHC Foundation (Brisebois)

Violetta Afanasieva and P.J. Stock
Skating for: One x One

Kyoko Ina and Kelly Chase
Skating for: Children's Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan
