Shannon Rose

Roses aren't something we usually associate with the frigid month of January, but this singer-songwriter hopes you feel a little differently after hearing her latest CD, Seasons.

Shannon Rose, Royal Wood, and... Amanda's back!

meg and amanda.JPGAmanda Putz is back in the host's chair this week, which means a special crossover week where Amanda (left) and I (Meg, right) worked on the show together! It's an auspicious occasion, the last time our paths crossed on Bandwidth was when I was an intern three years ago... If we look happy but tired in the photo, it's because we've been hard at work putting together a great show for you!

I stopped by for a quick studio chat with Amanda, and brough along one last treat for the show: a 90-second egg from Dave Merritt of the Golden Seals... find out about the first song he ever wrote (though he won't divulge the story behind it!)

shannon rose.jpgThis week, you'll also meet Ottawa singer-songwriter Shannon Rose (right). Her album, Seasons, is inspired by just that -- so it only made sense for Amanda to chat with Shannon outside in the infamous Ottawa cold (but don't worry, you can listen to from the comfort of your living room!)

You'll also hear a live session from singer-songwriter Royal Wood, who's gracing the National Arts Centre in Ottawa tonight -- if you can't make the show, this is the next best thing! You can also hear the full session online at CBC Music by clicking here.

And that's about it for this week -- I'm continuing on to my new CBC assignment (details coming later) but willl pop in to Bandwidth every now and then! Amanda will be back on the blog next week.

Cheers!

Meg.

Interview: Little Stella

little stella studio faces.jpgImagine dropping out of university to pursue a career in music... Exciting! -- and terrifying.

That's what Manotick band Little Stella had done when I last caught up with them in March. They put school on hold to work on the band, to book more shows, and to release a new EP... And now they're back in studio to talk about the past 10 months have gone.

Happy New Year!...

Craig.JPG... and with a new year comes a new host -- Amanda Putz will be back in the Bandwidth chair next Saturday.

It's been a great year for me here at Bandwidth, and I wanted to take the opportunity to catch up with some of the talented acts that have graced the airwaves this year -- and some of their new music! In fact, you'll hear FOUR RADIO PREMIERES TODAY, including a new song from Craig Cardiff (left, with Rowan, Meg and Jessa) as well as new songs from Faraway Neighbours, Adaline and FEVERS.

little stella studio smile.jpg

Manotick folk-rockers Little Stella also stopped by the studio to talk about the past year. When I last chatted with them, they'd dropped out of university to focus full-time on the band and their music -- find out how the year has been and hear a song off their latest EP.

UPCOMING SHOWS:

- Little Stella plays around Ontario this month, check out their dates on their Facebook page.

- Craig Cardiff plays Stratford on Jan. 24th and Innisfil on the 27th -- check out his Facebook page for more details and shows

- Whitehorse has upcoming dates in London, Waterloo and Toronto -- check out their website for details.

I've had such a fantastic time on Bandwidth -- this has been my first hosting gig, and after working with so many talented musicians and hearing from such awesome listeners, it's going to be a hard experience to top! Thanks for listening, and hopefully I'll be on the Bandwidth airwaves again (even if it's just to sneak on the show next week to welcome Amanda back).

All the best!

Meg.
