Architect Brian Mackay-Lyons takes a little of Nova Scotia with him wherever he builds. Born in Arcadia, on Nova Scotia's French Shore, Mackay-Lyons first garnered attention with designs for small houses and cottages.....modeled in part on traditional homes and fishing structures of his home province. He has used native materials in his building and has championed traditional building techniques. Mackay-Lyons has gone on the design larger public buildings, most recently a dramatic courtyard for Canada's embassy in Bangladesh. He has been a five time winner of the Governor-general's Medal for architecture.
