The Stanfields on Atlantic Airwaves

We caught up with the band during part of their mini tour promoting their latest CD 'For King and Country'. The Stanfields are best known as a rock band with their ECMA award winning CD 'Death and Taxes', but this time around they decided to go unplugged and the result speaks for itself. This concert was recorded at the Marigold Theatre in Truro and was also video taped and you can see some of those videos right here. Just click on the title of this entry to view.

One of the biggest highlights in Halifax last summer was the celebrations for the Tall Ships along the waterfront. CBC was there, broadcasting throughout the week as well as presenting several concerts in the evenings. t-cd-celticcolourssessions.jpg This week Atlantic Airwaves has two collaborative projects that took place in the last year. We'll hear from the Barra MacNeils recent CD 'The Celtic Colours Sessions'. The Barras recorded with nearly a dozen different performers while attending the Festival in Cape Breton in 2011.

As well, the iconic songs of Gene MacLellan feature on Atlantic Airwaves this week. From a tribute concert recorded last January we'll hear 'Snowbird', 'The Call' and 'Put Your Hand In The Hand'. Performers include Lennie Gallant, Ron Hynes, Meaghan Blanchard, Dennis Ellsworth, and Gene's daughter Catherine. To watch the video of this concert click here.

This week on Atlantic Airwaves we're off to Cape Breton for the Celtic Guitar Summit featuring Dave MacIsaac, JP Cormier, John Doyle and Ray Legere. One of the many concerts given during the 2012 Celtic Colours International Festival.

Atlantic Airwaves presents two concerts from the Tall Ships CBC Pavilion

One of the biggest highlights in Halifax this summer was the visit from the Tall Ships along the waterfront. CBC had a prime positioned pavilion and broadcast throughout the week as well as presenting several concerts in the evenings. On Atlantic Airwaves this weekend you'll hear two .... one with Old Man Luedecke and the other with the Booty Boppin Brass Band. Tune in Saturday on Radio 2 at 10 a.m. or on Radio 1 at 5:05 in the afternoon.

Atlantic Airwaves celebrates the career of Producer Glenn Meisner

After 40 years of working at CBC, Producer Glenn Meisner has decided to retire. This week on the show Glenn joins Stephanie in the studio to chat about a few of his highlights, favourite musicians and to share a story or two as well.
