Fancy isn't a word often heard in Eastern Canada and there is nothing fancy about The BackYard Devils. They're simply playing the music they love, a well blended mix of country, rockabilly and bluegrass. The musicianship runs deep in this band and although they're playing old styles they manage to put their own twist to it. Surely the ghosts of bluegrass and country greats past and present are looking approvingly upon them as the boys show they're more than capable of writing and performing catchy tunes that seem instantly recognizable.

When Brendan Hansen of The Meds handed a demo CD to rocker Matt Mays in a coffee shop in downtown Charlottetown in 2009, he believed it could have a profound effect on the lives of himself and his band-mates. He was right. Mays, a multiple JUNO award nominee and ECMA winner, heard big potential in the punchy riffs and infectious melodies that are The Meds signature sound. He quickly signed on to produce the Charlottetown based post-punk group's debut album and has been a mentor and supporter of the band's artistic and professional development ever since.

A fresh new face on the Halifax music scene, Mo Kenney radiates a vulnerability and fearlessness that instantly captivates audiences. She has garnered admiration from Aartists for whom she's opened, and counts among her fans Ron Sexsmith, Crash Test Dummies and Gordie Sampson. A versatile songwriter with a distinctive voice and compelling lyrics, Mo has been described as an artist to watch. It was these qualities that brought her to the attention of Joel Plasket, who is working with her in his Scotland Yard Studio to produce her first full length record. Atlantic Airwaves caught up with Mo Kenney during a live to air CBC Broadcast from the 'Breakout Stage' at the 2012 East Coast Music Awards held in Moncton NB.

For the past two years, The Long Distance Runners have built a reputation as one of Newfoundland's hardest working and dynamic up-and-coming bands. Their debut self-titled EP, released in 2010, solidified their place in the east coast music scene with a recent handful of ECMA and Music award nominations. Now, the St. John's based four-piece are entering the next chapter of their career with the release their first full length album Tracks this past April. We caught up with The Long Distance Runners during a live to air CBC Broadcast from the Breakout Stage at the 2012 East Coast Music Awards held in Moncton NB.
