The aim of John Huston's 1946 documentary, Let There Be Light, was two-fold: first, to illustrate, through a series of unscripted interviews, the effect of combat on soldiers -- what we would refer to today as post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD. It also sought to validate therapy as an effective tool in treating their psychological wounds.

The US Army - which had commissioned the doc - never released the film. It argued that the work violated its subjects' privacy. The film did not get a public screening until 1980 -- well after the end of the Vietnam war.

But now, "Let There Be Light" is being appreciated in a whole new light. Beginning today, a fully restored version of the film can be viewed for free online, on the website of the Nation Film Preservation Foundation: here

Today marks the 25th anniversary of the completion of the "Man in Motion" tour.

In March 1985, Rick Hansen rolled out of a parking lot in Vancouver. His goal was to travel around the world in his wheelchair to raise money for spinal cord research.
Twenty-six months, 36 countries and 40,000 km later, he rolled back into Vancouver a hero. He raised more than $26M.

On May 20, 1987, "As It Happens" host Dennis Trudeau spoke with Rick Hansen, two days before he completed his odyssey. Another blast from the past: Mr. Hansen is using a very early cell phone.
