The Ming Dynasty work of erotica, The Plum in the Golden Vase, can finally be read in English.

The five volume translation has been a decades-long labour of love by David Roy, Professor Emeritus of Chinese Literature at the University of Chicago, who says the book gets as explicit as one can possibly get.

The novel is still regarded as one of the four greatest works of its period.

It has also been described as Jane Austen meets hard core porn.
