Two Solitudes, by the late Hugh MacLennan, is the fifth and final contender in this year's Canada Reads. 
   
Two Solitudes follows the fortunes of the Tallard family, who personify the divisions between French and English. Son Marius is fiercely proud of his French-Canadian heritage. His younger brother, Paul, is partly of Irish background, and feels split between cultures.
