The heat is on for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice
On Tuesday, a lawsuit was filed against the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, challenging the lack of air conditioning in its correctional facilities. The suit alleges that the high temperatures in Texas prisons constitute cruel and unusual punishment.
It is the second suit of its type now challenging Texas prisons.
Lawyer Scott Medlock is the director of prisoners' rights at the Texas Civil Rights Project, which is representing the plaintiffs in both cases.
