Al Maitland Reads Frederick Forsyth's "The Shepherd"

Christmas comes but once a year -- and with it, for thirty-two years now -- comes As It Happens' most celebrated holiday reading.

Every Christmas Eve, since it first aired in 1979, we've been delighted to bring you Alan Maitland's reading of The Shepherd, by Frederick Forsyth.

The year is 1957. An RAF pilot is flying home from Germany for Christmas. Fog sets in, and all radio communication is lost.
