For the Minds of Babes
As a relative newcomer to Current Affairs, I can tell you, firsthand: news can be, in the words of one of our producers, "a little inside baseball." So true - except for that "little" bit. By the time something hits the news there's often a long and convoluted backstory --- back-room dealings, intricate history and extreme personalities. Often, it's taken for granted that we know that backstory. Often we do not.
And that's what it's like as adults. Just imagine trying to understand "news" if you're a kid.
Kids, for example, probably don't know what a "Tsunami" is, let alone how one could lead to a near meltdown in reactor number two at a nuclear power generating plant in Japan. (Apologies to any adults reading who may be similarly in the dark.)
