Calgary: China Doll | May 3

Thursday, April 3, 2008 | 11:00 PM ET

China Doll was nominated for the 2005 Canadian Governor General’s Literacy Award - Drama. The play was produced by Nightwood Theatre (Toronto) in 2004, and was nominated for several Dora Mavor Moore awards.

Stanley Jones Grocery is a Renfrew/Bridgeland landmark in Calgary. It has been in the neighbourhood for a long time - a hundred years. While it was built by pioneers, like many cornerstores in Calgary, it is now run by new immigrants. The Chaw family came from South Korea nearly five years ago. They work around the clock making homemade food and serving their community. And while the work is hard, the Chaw's say they do it all for their children. The Eyeopener's Carla Turner dropped in on the family.
