SOUNDSTORIES

SoundStories are video profiles of Canadian musicians, composers and technicians, who use digital technology in innovative ways.

The purpose of creating SoundStories was to develop a new strategy for disseminating research results to a broader audience through television and the Internet. These stories are meant to illustrate research findings regarding new approaches to the production of musical heritage and provide insights into how digital technologies are being used in ways that re-position music-makers in socio-political, economic and aesthetic processes relevant for how music is selected, arranged, recorded, produced and circulated (Diamond 2005, Hesmondhalgh, 2000).

The SoundStories project was funded by a research grant from INE (Initiative on the New Economy) Public Outreach Grant in a competition adjudicated by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) .
