About the Gros Morne Experience:
I spent the month of June, 2000, as Artist-in-Residence at Gros
Morne National Park. The area has been designated a World Heritage
Site primarily because of the unique visual evidence of the tectonic
plate theory.
The place is a geologist's paradise and my work reflects my investigations
of structure and rhythm, and the grand design of the land, sea and
sky.
Involvement with the scientific community, local residents and
park visitors is at the discretion of the artist. My contribution
included a lecture on my previous work, an exhibition of work produced
during my stay including photographs drawings and watercolours,
and the presentation of a work for the permanent collection of the
gallery in St.John's.
As an extension of my residency experience, in September 2001 I
worked at St.Michael's Print Shop in St.John's. I used some of my
drybrush ink drawings as a reference and produced a triptych of
lithograph prints.
