About the Gros Morne Experience:
The month of my residency was spent trying to learn as much
as possible about the Park. I was overwhelmed by the immensity of
its wilderness.
I hoped NOT to meet wildlife when I was alone on the a trail. Finally
I did meet a female moose which seemed as timid and curious as I.
Each artist is required to interact in some way with Park visitors
or the community. I chose to go into the school at Woody Point to
do a collaboration with the children, from kindergarten to Grade
6.
I created the landscape and they drew images in magic marker to
inhabit it.
The process worked this way; I photocopied their drawings, transferred
them to an etching plate, drew the landscape around them, etched
the plate and then printed in colour.
The kids were great - very helpful and willing to try and draw
their games or the animals they knew. I loved their images.
