About the Gros Morne experience:
I shared a residency for the month of September of 2002 with Liz
Parkinson, a fellow artist/printmaker that I've known, camped and
worked with over the past ten years. We enjoyed the residency immensely.
The weather was perfectly warm and sunny in the beginning of the
month and blustery with remnants of a hurricane at the end. It had
all the meteorological bells and whistles.
Even though the Park Service was in the process of winding down
the season, we still got to talk with Parks People, go on tours,
and teach a Styrofoam printmaking to a class of high school students
at Cowhead. It was foggy but nice.
I worked primarily in sketchbooks when I was there. I'm a hunter/gatherer
kind of landscape artist. Both of us are avid hikers so we did a
lot just by ourselves, but we can't thank Anne Merceau, the Interpretation
Specialist and Michael Burzynski enough for their boundless knowledge,
hospitality and enthusiasm.
