About the Gros Morne Experience:
Coming to Gros Morne National Park from Toronto in August, 1999
has proved to be a pivotal experience for me, inverting the city
ratio of man-made landscape to wilderness.
The power and presence of the physical environment was so intense
that the first works from my residency focussed on contained elements
only, such as colour variation in sky, land and water.
Gros Morne is a place where you really can hear the earth speaking.
This language is so complex, mysterious and satisfying I feel it
will inform my work for years to come and in ways that I may never
