CBC is committed to the arts - CBC ARTSPOTS raise the profile of visual arts and craft in Canada.
CBC ARTSPOTS are a series of 30-second to 6-minute works which showcase art and craft made by Canadian artists. CBC ARTSPOTS play on television during commercial breaks in the middle of regular programming. CBC ARTSPOTS are accessible and engaging, attracting a broad range of viewers, including those with little art exposure through to those with a great deal of arts exposure. CBC ARTSPOTS illustrate the artists' approaches, techniques, and materials, by presenting audio and visuals of the work and introducing the artist. The visual style of each CBC ARTSPOT reflects the work of the artist. Some CBC ARTSPOTS are formal, some informal; some are about process or issues, others about material or ideas. The pace ranges from contemplative to in-your-face.
Artists are identified by provincial advisory groups, comprised of individuals familiar with the current art environment, including other artists, art educators, gallery directors, and CBC technicians & producers. The CBC ARTSPOTS advisory groups work with the CBC producer to prioritize what kind of work to show next on CBC ARTSPOTS.
