According to Hollywood industry newspaper Variety, plans are being finalized for a modernized version of the so-called "jiggle TV" classic about a trio of comely former policewomen turned private investigators who use their intelligence and feminine wiles to solve cases.
Josh Friedman, who recently brought the Terminator movie franchise to television with the series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, is slated to write and executive produce the Charlie's Angels revamp.
Also slated to participate are original producer Leonard Goldberg, who collaborated with the late TV mogul Aaron Spelling on a host of shows, including Charlie's Angels, Fantasy Island, Starsky and Hutch, Hart to Hart and Family.
Hollywood star Drew Barrymore is also reportedly involved. The actress and filmmaker produced and starred in a pair of successful modern film revivals of the series: 2000's Charlie's Angels and 2003's Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle.
If approved, the pilot would join the ongoing trend of digging into the TV archives to revive or remake old series.
However, several of these recent revamps — including Knight Rider and The Bionic Woman — have failed. Others, like 90210 and Melrose Place (also originally Spelling productions) have received mixed reviews.
