Twain joins American Idol as guest judge

Canadian country pop star Shania Twain will be a guest judge on the U.S. reality show American Idol, one of several filling the chair left by longtime judge Paula Abdul.

Twain will join regulars Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi during the Chicago auditions, a spokesman for the show said Tuesday.

Twain, who is reportedly gearing for her comeback, is one of several guest judges on the reality program. Others include pop singer Katy Perry and former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, known as Posh.

Twain last made headlines when she announced her split from music producer husband Robert John (Mutt) Lange in May 2008.

There are also unconfirmed reports that the first American Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson, and one of the Jonas Brothers may also guest judge.

Earlier this month, Abdul announced she was leaving the top-rated show after failing to reach a new contract.

The ninth season of American Idol returns in January.
