Sopranos star becomes Desperate Housewife

Former Sopranos star Drea de Matteo will join Desperate Housewives for its sixth season.

Entertainment Weekly reported that the Italian-American actress will play an Italian matriarch whose family moves to the fictional suburban Wisteria Lane.

Last season, the show killed off the character of Edie, played by Nicollette Sheridan.

De Matteo's breakout role was that of Adriana La Cerva, the girlfriend of Tony Soprano's protegé, Christopher, who became an FBI informant.

She later starred in the short-lived sitcom, Joey.

The actress is engaged to country music singer Shooter Jennings. They have an 18-month-old daughter, Alabama.
