Cancelled CBC crime drama Intelligence is being marketed to U.S. cable networks after being turned down for further development at the Fox network, according to its Los Angeles producer.
John Wells, the Emmy-winning producer of TV series ER, says he worked with Canadian creator Chris Haddock to develop a U.S. series based on Intelligence.
"We developed it at Fox, they have passed on it and we're taking it to other places because it's a great script," Wells said Tuesday.
Wells said the newly developed series has promise on an emerging cable network.
"In the old days, if a network passed, it was like yesterday's salad bar," he says. But Wells said he loves the script and thinks Intelligence will get made.
With the success of shows like Dexter and Mad Men, cable networks are hunting for original adult drama, he says.
"We're actively trying to set it up elsewhere."
CBC cancelled Intelligence, created in Vancouver by many of the same crew who worked on Da Vinci's Inquest, after two seasons.
The show starred Ian Tracey as a Vancouver drug lord who is forced to become an informant to an intelligence agency.
Haddock was working on developing the show at Fox when it was cancelled in March.
