Shrek, Miley Cyrus earn Kids Choice nominations

Shrek, the big green ogre of the movie series, is still a fan favourite among the young set and earned a leading four nominations Friday for the Kids Choice Awards at Nickelodeon cable network.

In second place was pop star Miley Cyrus, who was nominated for best female singer and favourite TV actress while her show, Hannah Montana, has a nod for favourite TV show.

Cyrus, 15, won the favourite TV actress award in 2006.

Jamie Lynn Spears, Britney's pregnant younger sister and star of Zoey 101, has a nomination in the TV actress category with Raven-Symone of That's So Raven and Emma Roberts of Unfabulous.

Shrek the Third was nominated for best animated movie, competing with Bee Movie, Ratatouille and The Simpsons Movie.

Several Shrek characters also earned nominations as favourite voice in an animated movie: Mike Meyers as Shrek, Cameron Diaz as Shrek's wife, Fiona, and Eddie Murphy as Shrek's loyal sidekick, Donkey.

Among young readers, J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series was nominated for best book, along with Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eight, Volume One: The Long Way Home by Joss Whedon and Andy Owens; Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney and How to Eat Fried Worms by Thomas Rockwell.

For favourite TV show, the choice is among Drake & Josh, Hannah Montana, iCarly and The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.

The nominees for favourite movie are Alvin and the Chipmunks, Are We Done Yet?, The Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End and The Transformers.

Actor Jack Black is to host the Kids Choice Awards ceremony on March 29. 

Young fans can begin voting for their favourites online on March 3.
