An anonymous bidder has pledged almost $10 million US for a version of the orange 1969 Dodge Charger car made famous in the television show The Dukes of Hazzard.
The car, owned by actor John Schneider, who played Bo Duke, was never in the original show but has signatures from members of the cast. The car was nicknamed the General Lee in the show.
"This is really, really quite amazing," said the 47-year-old actor, who plans to produce a movie with the money.
"I think I'll go on vacation and then make the movie."
EBay officials say they still haven't verified the sale but if it goes through, it would mark eBay's highest sale price ever — beating out the $4.9 million US paid for a private jet.
"The way it works is the money and vehicle swap hands between buyer and seller, but until we hear from buyer and seller we have no way of verifying whether the transaction happened," said company spokesperson Catherine England.
The winning bidder, who uses the screen name of "Fishbashr1," beat out 60 others.
EBay officials recommended Schneider only take bids from pre-qualified eBay customers who could confirm financing.
Schneider said he expected the orange coupe, which was in the movie Dukes Go to Hollywood, to fetch as much as $3 million US. Its final price on Friday was $9,900,500.
The Dukes of Hazzard, also starring Tom Wopat and Catherine Bach, ran for seven seasons from 1979 to 1985.
