If you can survive until TIFF’s closing night, you’re in for a real treat.

The festival has invited renowned video mash-up artists Eclectic Method to remix scenes from the top 100 films of all time at the public wrap party, this Saturday night at Yonge-Dundas Square.

The London-based audio-visual act has worked with U2, Fatboy Slim and Public Enemy and staged similar spectacles at the Cannes and Sundance film fests.

In an interview with CBCNews.ca, group member Jonny Wilson described the preparations: “We have 100 of the best movie scenes. We’ve been cutting them up and preparing them like riffs that we can jam live off of,” he says, on the phone from New York City.

“A lot of the films stand out to us, and we’ve come across a lot of them already in the process of doing what we do. There’s Star Wars and classics like Raging Bull, Wizard of Oz, Vertigo, City of God, Seven Samurai. You can imagine the amount of classic movies. We’ll go through them in quick succession, purifying the finest moments out of those and then remixing them together.”

Eclectic Method received the classic film clips from TIFF to play around with. “We are re-editing those clips into portions that we improvise with, like a turntablist would,” adds Wilson.

He and his band-mates -- Ian Edgar and Geoff Gamlen -- play video samples, then scratch, remix and apply effects to them on a pair of Pioneer DVD decks. They create a sample-based audio-visual show that dazzles both the ears and the eyes. Short clips of video are remixed together and over-lap to create a seamless collage style show. This should be good.
