Ollie out, surgery on for Tom Green's online show

Last Updated: Wednesday, September 20, 2006 | 4:01 PM ET

Tom Green's plan to demonstrate skateboarding tricks for his online talk show Tom Green Live went awry last week when he broke his leg.

But no matter, the controversial comedian has concluded — the surgery he needs will make fascinating TV.

Tom Green, who broadcast his surgery for testicular cancer in 2000, will ask for cameras in the operating room when doctors work on his broken leg.

Green, who broadcast his surgery for testicular cancer in 2000, will ask for cameras in the operating room when doctors work on his broken leg.

"It worked with my cancer special, so why not try it with my broken leg," he said.

Green, 35, known for his outrageous antics on camera, has been broadcasting the show intermittently from his Hollywood Hills living room in an arrangement with internet station ManiaTV.com out of Denver.

The latest gimmick for the program was to learn a new skateboarding trick each week.

Idea crashes

That idea came crashing down as he attempted to do an ollie, a skateboarding move that involves jumping the skateboard, on a parking lot.

"What I was trying to do wasn't all that dangerous, just a massive ollie. I'm just kicking myself," Green said.

Green thought he had suffered a sprain in the accident and walked on the leg for a week, but an X-ray turned up a break that requires surgery.

The operation is scheduled for Thursday.

Green, host of The Tom Green Show and The New Tom Green Show, was diagnosed with testicular cancer in March 2000 and his special featuring his surgery was on MTV.

He figures once the surgery is completed, he'll be doing a lot of broadcasting as he'll have to sit at home while his leg heals.
