Bucharest - Romania's tourism ministry is pressing ahead with plans for a vampire theme park despite criticism of its proximity to a UN heritage site.
Dracula Park will be built in Sighisoara, the hometown of 15th-century prince Vlad the Impaler. Vlad was the inspiration for Bram Stoker's novel Dracula .
Sighisoara is also the home to a citadel designated as an international heritage site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. UNESCO says heavy tourist traffic in Sighisoara could threaten the citadel's preservation.
Greenpeace and Prince Charles have echoed UNESCO's complaint.
The park will include amusement rides, a golf course, a Gothic castle wired with spooky effects, a zoo, horseback riding, restaurants and shops.
