Companies like Kid Robot (makers of Kidbomber 05, pictured) have helped propel designer toys into the mainstream — and not just with a series of stores.

They have also experimented with different collaborations to bend the definition of “toy”; they recently teamed with fashion designer Marc Jacobs to produce a figure to be exhibited and sold at Barney’s NYC.
