(Michael Dwyer/Associated Press)Elton John has been released from hospital in London and is slated to return to touring next week, according to a spokesman for the British singer.

John was resting at home on Friday, said Gary Farrow.

He plans to resume his tour and concert dates with Billy Joel soon, beginning with a gig in Oakland, Calif., on Nov. 14, Farrow added.

Last month, the 62-year-old singer fell ill with a serious case of influenza and an E. coli infection that forced him to cancel a host of engagements in the U.K. and the U.S. over the last few weeks, including the final dates of his Red Piano tour.

This summer, John and Joel were also forced to postpone a number of concerts on their shared tour after the latter fell ill with a serious case of influenza.

Organizers are expected to announce rescheduled dates for John's cancelled concerts.
