Leonard Cohen concerts set for Montreal, Toronto

Last Updated: Tuesday, March 11, 2008 | 5:47 PM ET

Leonard Cohen plans stops in Montreal and Toronto in June in his first concert tour in 15 years.

Canada's bard, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Monday evening, announced details of the tour Tuesday.

He will appear in Toronto on June 6 and 7, with tickets going on sale Saturday.

Then he will perform three times in Montreal, June 23, 24, and 25 as part of the Montreal jazz festival.

It's a long-awaited concert engagement in his home town for Cohen, who refers to Montreal in songs such as Suzanne and his novel Beautiful Losers.

The Montreal jazz festival will also showcase appearances by Steely Dan, Aretha Franklin, Charlie Haden and both the Glenn Miller Orchestra and the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra.

Tickets for Cohen's Montreal concerts go on sale Thursday.

Cohen's concert promoters did not release all the dates of his tour, so further Canadian appearances could be pending. Reports say the concerts will feature new songs.

Cohen is also scheduled to headline the Glastonbury Festival in Britain on June 29, which annually attracts more than 150,000 people.

He has dates planned in Ireland, France, Switzerland and Norway, as well.

Cohen, 74, was spending his days at a Zen Buddhist retreat until 2006, when he lost much of his savings to his one-time money manager.

He has since returned to the limelight with a new book of writings and sketches, Book of Longing, and a new musical project with U.S. composer Philip Glass.
